I have been cleaning out my garage and ran across two items that are a blast right out of the past that involve two posters here:
1) I found a copy of the 14-Jan-1983 Professional Land Surveyors of Wyoming SW chapter meeting minutes where both Loyal Olson and myself were in attendance, Loyal was elected to the President-Elect position at that meeting.
2) Fast forward a few years to 07-Sep-1990 and I found a faxed letter from Glen Borkenhagen of Inland Precision with details on a Wild T1000 / DI1000 combination that we were purchasing from his business. That equipment went to my then employer in California.
I find it interesting that the paths of these two great guys both from Wyoming have been crossing my path for decades!

I still have the Wild NA2 automatic level
that I purchased in June 1994 from your then employer in Smith River, you were my only contact there through that transaction.
I was a Topcon dealer back then and had the first four-telescope collimation stand between Denver and Calgary. I had tried to use Topcon AT-G2 auto levels for check instruments. Tried about three different AT-G2s but each of those needed adjustment every time I checked the collimation scopes. The Wild NA2 you sold me was spot-on every time it went on the stand, solid like a rock.

Seems like a 100 years ago...well at least 30!
I never "assumed" the position of President of the Chapter, I was recruited by Getty Mining shortly thereafter and left Wyoming for awhile (California, Idaho, Maine, Nevada, South Dakota, etc.). Jeff Carlton (who I beat by ONE vote) took over.
I would still like to take another look at that BIG "bearing tree" that you and I (and Bill), tried to open that day in 82.

I didn't know the history on your presidency, LOL. I left green River in I think May, 1983, so wasn't around for most of what was to be "your reign"!
You know, I just can't remember the "BT", I guess too many trees since then...
Another thing I found in the recent cleaning was a company brochure for WHS, all of the principals listed in that are either deceased or no longer with the firm, time marches on. There is still a grandson of Bill's there however.

Talk about years, I helped expand the Compressor Station north across IH 80 from Wamsutter in 1973. I didn't make it back to that area until 2006, working on some gathering lines for Williams. Then I was working out of Rock Springs.

I guess you just can't see the forest tree for the trees forests.

I first rolled into Evanston Wyoming in a Red VW Bug (w/ peace sign in rear window) in 1969, while working for the U.S. Forest Service (my second year surveying).
It was a different world in Southwest Wyoming in those days, and long haired USFS Surveyors had to keep on their toes (and mind their Ps & Qs).
I worked (more or less) out of Evanston, Fort Bridger, Lone Tree and Mountain View with the USFS until 1976 (I think...the 70s are a bit of a blur). We spent most of our time in Range or Guard Stations up in the Unitas, but Wednesdays meant showers in town (usually Evanston), and POWER DRINKING @ Pete's Rock & Rye until sometime on Thursday morning. That would KILL me now!
I returned in early 81 to work for Unita Engineering and Surveying, and stayed until 83. Now those were some wild and wooly years around here... for SURE!
Came back for good in March or 2006.
Pretty mellow place these days, and in some ways, more like the 60s/70s (only now all the "hippies" are senior citizens).
