I've long thought surveyors would be a great group to ask about sightings, our profession has us in the woods much more than the average person. I've never been a believer in the creature, but yesterday I saw something that I cannot explain what it was. I don't think it was a Sasquatch, though I have no idea what it was.
I was at the bottom of a steep hill in a small valley. The hill was 240' high with a 40% grade (not fun climbing back up), heavily wooded and in the middle of nowhere. The instrument man was at the top, and I was trying to get my other rodman to set a point midway down the hill. I thought I spotted him 2/3 of the way down the hill when I noticed a beech tree (still had leaves) moving, and then what I thought was his figure moving behind it. I moved back to get to a more preferred position and discovered he was actually still at the top of the hill. I haven't the slightest clue what I saw, a deer would have made more noise and I would have seen it leaving, and we don't have bears in this area. I will state I continue not to believe, but now I can see how others do.
So what say you? Any experiences or beliefs?
If I told you the story, you and nobody else would believe me, so it's best I don't.
Now you've piqued my curiosity, Williwaw! What did you see??? :-S
My curiosity is also piqued...do tell. While I have no bigfoot stories, I am still on the fence as to their existence but my son is a huge believer.
I met a man that was so big an ugly, that I thought he was sasquatch!!

Don't beleive in creatures like that. If they did exist someone like surveyors would have by now found skeletons or at least some bones.
Readers Digest version. Long, long story made very short. I spent a good part of my youth in Asia. Dad worked in Saudi. I attended boarding school in India for four years. Place called Woodstock located about 200 clicks north of Delhi in the foothils of the Himalayas, town called Mussoorie. I got into backpacking early on and went every chance I got. Did a weeklong trek to a lake located high in the mountains, very remote area. I won't give details of where exactly. I was a quarter mile ahead of my group at about 8,000', very steep country, lots of bamboo thickets and rhododendrum. As I was hiking, a heard something coming down the mountain above me very quickly. I paused to listen and the next moment it landed on the trail not five feet in front of me. A large ape like creature, standing fulling erect, no tail. About my height. We were both in total and complete shock. We stared at each other for, I don't know, a second, could have been ten. It was very young, like me, hazel eyes, grayish fur, very human like. It bolted off the trail and continued decending the mountain in great bounds. I sometimes wonder if it was a dream. It wasn't. I still to this day shake when I remember that encounter.
I've thought about going back with trail cameras and the like. I've concluded it would be for the best that they are never found.
I have had a weird event involving rocks being thrown into the river near me that I could not explain. Really made the hair stand up on my neck. There was no place for someone to hide within throwing distance and the rocks were large. I was bent over panning for gold each time and could not see what direction they came from.
I told my dad about the incident and he said that the year before he experienced the same thing about a 1/4 down river.
Unless they fell from the sky, something weird happened.
I kind of attribute it to bigfoot for some reason - don't know why.
-------
There are things in this world that we do not fully understand yet.
Here is one reason why I firmly believe that.
Shortly after my grandma passed away, my parents experienced something very odd.
They were sitting in their living room. On the mantle above the wood stove there was a large steel cow bell hanging from a rail road spike driven into a timber.
All of a sudden, the cow bell started ringing. I don't mean slightly rocking, but full out ringing. If you have ever heard a cow bell, you know how loud that is. It rang for 5 seconds or so then stopped. My parents sat there on the couch in disbelief.
They are very straight people. My dad is a land surveyor. They don't do drugs. They are not known for exaggerating or telling stories.
They firmly believe that my grandmother was saying goodbye. Nothing like that had ever happened before or since.
Not really bigfoot related, but illustrates the fact that there may actually be things that cannot currently be explained by science, yet still exist.
Yeti?
Wow - thanks for posting that. :-O
(And, oh by the way, you sure have had an interesting life so far, haven't you?) B-)
Nate, was he really smelly, too?
There's a user on this site called "Dublin8300" that has many a such report. :-O 😛 😀 :excruciating:
Yeti?
F if I know what it was Zapper. Yea, real exciting life now I'm tethered to a PC drawing up a five mile pole line design survey. Beats working at Walmart with a smiley face sticker plastered to my forhead I guess.
Hey...
pole lines pay the bills around here! Love 'em.
ps - none of us would look good in a blue smock.+o(
Hey...
darn :good: point Paden.
Yeti?
Not everyone has gone backpacking in the Himalayas. Very cool!
Yeti?
Speaking of backpacking the Himalayas, my avatar is my male Tibetan Mastiff, Williwaw. I saw these dogs guarding flocks in the high country when I was backpacking there as a teenager. Big serrated metal collars to keep leopards from getting their throat. They say two so equipped can take on a leopard.
Sorry, didn't mean to hijack the sasquatch thread.
sounds like a black bear. They love climbing beech trees for the beechnuts.
One more little hijack and I'm done
I thought he might be a Tibetan Mastiff! I knew he was some kind of livestock guardian.
I have a Maremma and a Chihuahua, ha ha.
And cool thread, pencerules. 🙂
I did not get that close.... however a nice looking gent at walmart did definately have an odor about him.... from 10' away!
🙂 Makes me eyes water to think about it!
