I have a feeling that a beard - moustache trimmer is in the category of you get what you pay for, and price is a pretty good quality indicator.
Anyone have any recommendations?

Go ahead and laugh, but I bought mine years ago at PetSmart or equivilent. Occassionally cut my own curly head of hair too (but that's getting thinner).
Still doing just fine, and half the price of high tech human models. I think it was around $40.

I've had a Remington Maverick more than 5 years now. It's been a good one for the price.

I've been using Eileen for 35 years, but the cost has been huge!
I have a battery-powered trimmer (don't recall the brand), but quickly decided that it doesn't give me enough control to use on my beard. I've been using scissors for almost 30 years now. The trimmer is useful for tidying up my neck in between haircuts, though, so it still sees regular if infrequent use.
Don't have a beard; use small scissors for the mustache; and for other little personnal hairs, I've had this little classic, or something like it, for going on 50 years.

The Wahl Peanut Clippers are Great! I got them from my Mother-in-law who is a hairdresser and uses them and knows whats good.

I allow my barber to have the pleasure. Hair cuts and beard/mustache trims are one of the few luxuries I allow myself.
Real surveyors either don't trim them or use the machete once or twice a year.:-P
