This is spooky. I have been replying to someone on facebook that is getting their son a metal detector. Not to hunt pins but for recreational fun and treasure hunting.

Now suddenly the ads on the side of Beer Leg show ads for metal detectors.

Is this world weird or what?

Yup. The way the internet works these days, I seriously doubt that's a coincidence.

Yep, unfortunately, the Google ads you see are part of what keeps this place online and available.

Well Jim. I look at that in another perspective. I would think that ads are what helps keep this site up and running. So I don't mind as long as they are not pop-us that really annoy you.

By no means would I ever want to deny anybody the "pleasure" of blinking, flashing, very annoying ads... but some of us prefer a bit more privacy and control over our environment 🙂

I approach ads just like P&R. It's always on but I rarely look at it.

If you find the ads annoying, please let me know. I have attempted to make them not annoying, but being that they are randomly selected by Google, it's hard to be perfect. I do have at least some control over them, but if you see anything particularly flashy or annoying, please do tell.

Let me apologize for assuming (yes, we all know what that means) the ads would be like so many other sites I have visited. I was unaware that they could be controlled to some extent, I find that interesting.

If I'm not mistaken, the advertisers on Google Ads pay by the click. Most of the ads I see are for discount surveyors who advertise stuff on their website like this:

Recession Special 35% Discount on boundary and lot stakeout surveys!!

So I make sure to click on their links daily 😉

Or you can get AdBlock add-on for Firefox and not see ads.

That FaceBook is something else. F-ing creepy if you ask me. My wife got an Android phone and when she installed the FB app, it (uncommanded) populated all of the contacts in her phone with the FB pictures of the contacts who were also her FB "friends". That's a bit intrusive methinks. You'll never see me on the FB.

It is an "option" to sync your Google contacts with Facebook or not to sync. I like that it links their Facebook profile picture and status message to my contacts. I use adblock on my phone to speed up page loads, but with broadband at home I don't mind the adds loading.

> You'll never see me on the FB.

You'll never see see me on the FaceBook either.....

Say a story about a stalker The Today show this morning. He was pretending to be a sorority sister and friending girls on the FaceBook. When he had their confidence, he was having them send him nude photos and such, very disturbing.

Be careful out there!
