Julius, Adolph, Leonard, Milton, and Herbert Marx
You know them better by their nicknames.
1. Can you name all five nicknames?
2. Can you put each nickname with the correct Marx brother?
BTW, doing a search qualifies as cheating.
Harpo, Chico, Zeppo and ?
Wasn't there a Groucho as well?
Julius=Groucho
Don't forget the Howard brothers, or Horowitz if you prefer.
That last one is a sticky one.
Once named five kittens by these five nicknames. It is sad to report that the one with this last nickname was the first to go to kitty heaven. It wasn't a pretty sight.
When and where did they get their start in comedy?
Larry wasn't one of them.
After they stopped doing music and standard entertainment.
Julius in action with the long suffering straight woman Margaret Dumont...
Wow Cow
You have psychic abilities.
I was thinking about the Marx Bros today and I even watched Lydia the Tattooed Lady on You Tube. A timeless classic of a tune.
We are invited to a masquerade party in a few weeks that has a circus theme.
I thought of going as J Cheever Loophole (Groucho) from At The Circus
Lydia, oh Lydia, say, have you met Lydia?
Lydia the tattooed lady
She has eyes that men adore so
And a torso even more so
Lydia, oh Lydia, that encyclopedia
Lydia, the queen of tattoo
On her back is the Battle of Waterloo
Beside it the Wreck of the Hesperus, too
And proudly above waves the red, white and blue
You can learn a lot from Lydia
(la la la la la la)
When her robe is unfurled, she will show you the world
If you step up and tell her where
For a dime you can see Kankakee or Paree
Or Washington crossing the Delaware
(la la la la la la)
(la la la la la la)
Lydia, oh Lydia, say, have you met Lydia?
Lydia the tattooed lady
When her muscles start relaxin'
Up the hill comes Andrew Jackson
Lydia, oh Lydia, that encyclopedia
Lydia, the queen of tattoo
For two bits she will do a mazurka in jazz
With a view of Niagara that nobody has
And on a clear day, you can see Alcatraz
You can learn a lot from Lydia
(la la la la la la)
(la la la la la la)
Come along and see Buffalo Bill with his lasso
Just a little classic by Mendel Picasso
Here's Captain Spaulding exploring the Amazon
Here's Godiva but with her pajamas on
(la la la la la la)
(la la la la la la)
Lydia, oh Lydia, that encyclopedia
Lydia, the queen of them all
She once swept an admiral clean off his feet
The ships on her hips made his heart skip a beat
And now the old boy's in command of the fleet
For he went and married Lydia
I said Lydia
He said Lydia
I said Lydia
He said Lydia
Ole!
That is one of my favorites.
My youngest daughter had a classmate during high school named Lydia. Her father was a minister. At 13 she was the most conservative girl in the world. I told her of Groucho and his Lydia, Oh, Lydia. She was not impressed. Today, I'm fairly certain that Lydia might just resemble Groucho's Lydia a wee bit.
A couple of years ago she moved back from out of state. I see her from time to time. Every time I see her I want to hum that silly tune.
"After they stopped doing music and standard entertainment."
Wrong. They still didn't completely stop music and standard entertainment until later.
"BTW, doing a search qualifies as cheating."
Here's the answers

Now you know why I said the one unnamed above was a sticky one.
Who knew it was supposed to be Chicko instead of Chico?
I got all 5 nicknames, and matched them up to the real names with the exception of swapping Chico and Harpo.
Not too bad for somebody who doesn't pay a lot of attention to cultural trivia.
Harpo
Another noteworthy fact is that Harpo, the silent one, was a frequent member of the Algonquin Round Table along with such raconteurs as Alexander Woolcott, Dorothy Parker and George S. Kaufman. If you are a fan, the book "Harpo Speaks" is well worth reading. A couple of good book by Groucho are "Groucho and Me" and "Memories of a Mangy Lover".
"A gal a day is enough for me"!
