Got my first haircut since the end of February today.
Got mine cut yesterday as well. Went from the longest it has been in over 30 years to the shortest it has been since buzz cuts for summer as a kid. Got my teeth cleaned today. All prettied up and no place to go!!
People are starting to comment on my curly hair.?ÿ I call it wavy hair.?ÿ The gals used to be jealous if they had straight hair.?ÿ I was just a few days from getting it cut when the world stopped turning.?ÿ Barbers can now be open by appointment only, no sitting around reading magazines and swapping stories with the others waiting.?ÿ I'm waiting a bit so those who "must" have haircuts can be serviced.?ÿ Being ugly isn't really a big detriment to my income like it might be for some.

Most pictures of Santa show long hair.
I normally don't skip haircuts until after October 1 to get a sort of shaggy look by early to mid-December. I could go six months and it wouldn't get any closer to my shoulders as it curls up. Went well over a year once many years ago and it still wasn't close to being shoulder length. Probably would have been if it was straight hair.
I haven't had a "store bought" haircut in decades. Sometime in the early 90's I bought a Flowbee (attaches to a vacuum cleaner) and I have been using it ever since. I guess my "barber" stays in the closet!
Remember Tim "The Tool Man" Taylor??ÿ He could give a five minute monologue on the manliness that comes from participating in uniquely male activities.?ÿ Trips to a real barbershop fit right in. ArrArrArrArr!
Of course it was more dramatic back in the days when the place smelled of cigars and Bay Rum.?ÿ Some of the magazines available for your waiting pleasure might not be found laying around at your mother's Tupperware party.?ÿ Listening to all the stories being told was a treat unto itself.?ÿ You might accidentally learn that your buddy, Larry, wasn't really related to his dad.?ÿ And, the bickering among the crowd over who was up next.?ÿ Man, those were the days.
My wife is giving me my second cut since March.?ÿ My hard hat won't stay on my head.?ÿ Only saving grace is I get to cut hers after she cuts mine.
Gramps Harris was the local family barber and he had two cuts, crew or burr. That is something that I will never do to my sons or grandsons.
I first cut my own hair and a few others in high school when stopped at the door and ordered to get it off my collar to pass dress code and sometimes by a coach that wanted it tighter and missing class or practice meant extra laps after pounding each other into the turf for hours.
Even in college, a dress code existed and there were very few shaggys on campus.
In the last 46 years, I have been to a barber or stylist maybe a dozen times at the request of a woman for that new look. There is not always a barber within half-hour drive from here and stylists come and go like seasons or else they have only certain clients and no new openings.
Apart from that, I've taken clippers and a 3/4in comb for most of the work and some touchup with smaller combs and scissors. It used to take about 15mins top and now it takes several days to a week to get it all balanced because I can not reach and cut in the correct direction anymore.
The many models from WAHL have been very good to me.

We bought a set of clippers yesterday to cut our Lab's coat because it is getting so hot.?ÿ We cut hers and then this morning my wife took them (and the #4 guide) to my hair.?ÿ It's a lot shorter than it has been in a long time but it sure feels better.?ÿ I told her, when she was apprehensive about cutting it, that hair will grow back.?ÿ I left a LOT of gray/white hair on the patio for a while.

Usually the difference between a good haircut and a bad one is two weeks.
