Yes the area of about ONE and a HALF times the area of Texas.
Heavy rains in last few days on saturated soil has caused catastrophic run offs and flooding.
The sad Irony is that for the last 8 years or so Queensland has been in an horrific drought with practical no rain . Some areas have received 12 inches in a couple of days .
The link to the page where there is a video which I can not directly link is on right hand side near top of page, showing a car in a drain is worth watching. That flooding was a result of 4 inches in under one hour . Could be a slow load.
Perhaps some one can find the direct video link.....

Incredible. A down under Katrina.
moving flood water is so awesomely destructive. My wife has several friends who live in Brisbane and they have been posting about their experiences on facebook.
Seems to always go that way. First there's no rain. Then when it decides to rain, it pours. Non Stop!! Flooding follows. Use to do that to us in Tucson. What always amazed me is the people trying to cross the flooded washes would go around the barricades and then they were wondering why they got "caught" in the washes and their cars floated away. "But it didn't look like that much water!!" Idiots. 😐
Just got through watching the floods on the tele, man what a nightmare....houses, cars, and people, like you said, cars floating like corks....devasting...
This is terrible, but I feel they will recover very quickly.
More proof that god hates kangaroos.
j/k Very sad indeed.
RADU,
I have been following this on a couple of blogs, I've seen a couple satellite views that show the area of inundation, it is unbelieveable. One report I just read stated that flooding was moving into northern NSW.
I hope everything is safe in SA.
We are 1000 miles from Brisbane where water running into sea. However we will get some of the water in a few months from inland Queensland as it comes down the Darling/ Murray river system which will flood the low areas along Murray.
Currently overcast here and forecast for some areas in SOZ to possibly receive 4 inches tonight/tomorrow as low forms South of OZ. Birds know something amiss as very, very quiet today.

I would really like to help out, but I have no money. Serious statement. Any ideas?
One year ago the earthquake hit Haiti. Billions flew in from all over the world.
I didn't realize Haiti was so much more important than Australia.
My heart goes out to all of those suffering from the flooding. I think of those with normal problems which are magnified many times over by such conditions. Imagine going into labor, having a heart attack or stroke, wondering if your recently departed loved one is currently floating out of the mortuary and headed for the ocean, wondering where your spouse or family is as you got separated and have no way of contacting each other. Ever have one of those toothaches for which there is no comfort short of dentistry magic? Imagine that going on while every dentist office is out of service. Measles, mumps, flu? Inability to get resupplied with your daily meds that carry warnings of great hazards if suddenly discontinued?
Grim search now going on for bodies as initial flash floods
caught many by absolute surprise .
Saying flood damage cost greater than Katrina! and water levels in Brisbane still have another 2 metres to rise before today's peak in an hour as peak due to high tides preventing water to escape to sea !
Grim search now going on for bodies as initial flash floods
The Inland tsunami video was crazy. You could see the water rising by the minute.

I only caught the last second of that on the news but..HOLY CRAP!!! Tsunamis are one of my biggest fears. Just the seeing of them on TV, news, anything scares the bageebies out of me. 🙁 :-S :-/
