The First Mate (Ex-Wife) and I bought her from an old "outlaw" Jessie James in
1990 in Melrose, Florida, where she was tidily moored in Melrose bay on Lake
Santa Fe. We sailed her on the lake for a season and then hauled her out for a
massive refit (her interior was completely gutted when we bought her). Alas the
marriage was not meant to last and the refit foundered. My First Mate ended up
with custody of our girl. In the past 20 years she managed to sand off two coats
of canary yellow paint (as well as most of the white gelcoat in some spots). In
February I took custody of our girl again and thus begins the painstaking refit
after 20 years on the hard.

Almost looks like a small Ericson ..(they have an owners group that sells and trades boat bits)
I think there's a novel in that story, Randy; speaking for, but not on behalf of, the Beerleg Book Club.

She's an Alacrity 19 (18.5 actual) built by Hurley Yachts for Russell Marine and also marketed as a Hurley 19. They were designed in 1960 and were originally cold molded out of plywood by the same factory that built the Mosquito Bombers during WWII. In 1961 they tooled up to produce them in fiberglass. Mine was built in 1967. The bilge keels are very forgiving and make for a boat that is very difficult to capsize. She does sacrifice some performance to windward but hey I'm no racer, more of a gunk-holer.

Proving, once again (in the words of Henry David Thoreau), "Such things are more easily acquired than got rid of".
20 years "On the Hard" - TAKE IT BACK
Randy, All I have to say is - Take it Back!
Randy,
I wish that I was near you,
I would offer to help to bring that babe back to life

On the hour drive to my daughters place, there must be at least a dozen old boats just lying around, abandoned. The number seems to be increasing lately.
She always says, "Let's stop and get one of those free boats!"
I laugh and tell her in the long run it would be cheaper to buy a yacht.
Good Luck!

I thought this was going to be a viagra related thread. 20 years!! After only hours you should see a doctor..
Seriouisly though, I hope you have some spare cash to repair that tub, you are going to need it.
As Rick Harrison from Pawn Stars says about buying boats:
BOAT = Bust Out Another Thousand
I remember one episode where Big Hoss (Rick's son) bought a classic Cris Craft without Rick's or The Old Man's permission or knowledge. They about went through the roof.
I don't know how many times I've run across not so old boats behind sheds, beside garages, overgrown with blackberries by the back fence, etc. etc. when surveying.
20 years "On the Hard"> Go Randy
Way to go!!! I lost one of my favorite sailboats through divorce and she rathered that it rot in her back yard until one day it was gone...
For those non-sailor's that looks like a lot of work ahead of you but it doesn't look that bad to me. A good washing will make it look great and then you can tend to the other cosmetics.
How are the sails?
I bet you can get it in the water this season!!

Prior;
You know that would be one tall tale repleat with images of debauchery on the high seas and mutiny on the boundary!
