I fear that my trusty HP LaserJet 5SiMX may be dying.
Any recommendations for a replacement?
I recall several people mentioning an all in one, maybe a Brother, that they were impressed with.
You may be able to find on the old site archives, that is, if you can figure out how to search the archives over there.
Edit: This may be what I remember reading about.
Brother all in one
Brother 6490cw. It can print and scan up to 11x17. It rocks!
Yep, that surely is the one.
I remember reading about it and thinking it would be a good replacement for my 1220C that is nearing 10 years old.
Ditto on the recommendation, have mine sitting next to me as we speak. The best uner 200 dollar printer on the market! I will say, it can be a bit tricky to set up the wireless connection, but once there it stays there.
Same here, that Brother model is great.
Thanks to all!
I have the Brother 6490cw and I agree its great!
Funny story. We ordered a color laser printer once (years ago). We spec'd it out that it must be able to print in color and that it must print on 11X17 paper. We ended up with an HP (I don't remember the model). It was able to print in color on 8½ X 11, and it was able to print good laser black-and-whites on 11 X1 7, but it wouldn't print in color on the 11 X 17 paper.
I hope they got enough complaints to not pull that any more, but make sure your new printer does everything you expect it to.
We installed a Brother 6490 CW Sunday to print out documents, invoices, and other stuff I don't want to have to run through the plotter. It also prints 11x17 plats, runs copies and faxes. It's wireless so we can print from anywhere in the house. Works good so far.
BROTHER 6490CW
I like mine... I'm not in love with it though. I had to finally use a cord to get it to print, and it seems to use more ink than I thought it would. Get the high yield cartridges when you buy. Mine works pretty good though, I can't complain too much.
I bought an HP 2800 a couple of years ago. I like it alot, yet that Brother sure sounds good. Not only does my HP not scan, it costs $300 more than the Brother.
I got the refillable carts for Christmas and have yet to refill them. The color is great.
