Anyone ever use these guys? I have been getting emails and solicitations from the it seems like daily. Seems interesting...
Never heard of them, although they're mentioned in Craigslist postings in my area. Presumably they want a commission or the equivalent.
I expect you would get mostly homeowner referrals, since commercial clients are more likely to get a recommendation from another developer, an architect, a contractor, a mortgage lender, etc. The homeowners would tend to give limited information about the scope of work, not knowing any better. It might or might not be possible to ask questions to clarify what they need, although it would be possible to ask Thumbtack about that in advance.
Thumbtack's website says they'll provide multiple quotes, which would encourage the clients to pick a surveyor based on price.

I have been with them for two years. I give about a quote a month and have gotten 2 jobs. Has been worth it, but two problems. One, I get requests for quotes all over the state. Maybe I can change a setting some where? Two, thumb will not allow me to ask for a tax parcel number or deed or even an address of the property. Because they do not want me to be able to contact directly. So I always give an hourly rate with a note to them that I can give an exact quote when they contact me directly.
