I received last week. I got a phone call from this guy and all he asked was if I perform residential`surveys. He said, "I really don't need a survey, I just need someone to find the pins, particularly the back pins."
I explained that I might be able to help and my fees are based on an hourly rate with a three hour minimum. I was on the road and gave him my email address and he said he would forward more info.
Here's what he sent:
Attached is the plat of White Tail Crossings
I need for you to find the back pins for lots 5, 6, and 7 in block 1
I need for you to find all 4 corners for lots 8 and 9 in block 1
If time allows:
Please find all 4 corners for lots 4-12 in block 3 and all lots in block 2.
What I mean by if you have time is we want you to do as much as you can in the 3
hour time frame that we are being charged for and by finding these additional pins
would help us going forward.
Please call if you have any questions.

BTW...it's a total of 32 lots.
I replied that I was a little busy and he should shop around.
I wish him well.....
What that much in 3 hours is too tough? Too bad they didn't think of school the same way, would have to deal with them much less.
At my age, I pace myself.;-)

You would be doing a service to surveyors everywhere by explaining the facts of life to him rather than just blowing him off.
Didn't. My actual reply was an apology for mistaking him for a homeowner.
And then I explained my liabilities and what the work would consist of and gave him a fair price. Two weeks later and I haven't heard from him.
32 Lots in 3 Hours? Where's TDD when you need him?
Hey, Mr Cash
Payden, that is, why don't you post the plat, for us all to see, and see if anybody wants to underbid ya?
🙂 (Sorrry, just my dry humor!)
N
Paden are you saying that 3 hours is too much time?
Hey, Mr Cash
This fellow is most definitely in need of education relative to boundary surveying. A simple meeting at the site might help to illustrate this somewhat dramatically. We must give away some time to enlighten those cowering in the darkness.
Typical !!
Hey, Mr Cash
He knows what he's doing !
He's a banker looking for everything for nothing !
my usual response is "what do you want me to do in the afternoon" hahahaha
Maybe he should call the local dept of public works. I'm sure they have a metal detector for "pin finding" and could find all the corners FOR FREE!
and my favorite classic line...
"I really don't need a survey, I just need someone to find the pins, particularly the back pins."
yep, that's not a survey!!
lets see 3 hours to read his email and mark lots on plat
send him a bill.....cause thats all you got done
