Service Tax - Calif
Senate Bill 8 is floating the idea in California. It looks like it is having a hard time getting out of committee, but if you're a Californian, I recommend you write your senator and local assemblyperson to protest. The bill contains the implementation of a new service tax and says the goal is to transfer tax burden from income tax to a tax on services. However the bill contains no provision to actually lower income tax, only to "study" the idea.
Senator Hertzberg has coined this the "upward mobility act".
