I mentioned a few months ago that I was working on stepping out on my own to build a business. Things are beginning to go quite well and I need to get some liability/E&O insurance. There are several companies out there and many more options/details to consider.

Are there companies that any of you would recommend?

What are some things I should look out for?

Are there any details/options that I should/should not include in a policy?

TIA for any advice.

I recommend contacting Assurance Risk Managers. Lisa Isom and Brian Anderson have been very helpful in searching out the best E&O rates for me. I can also recommend Hall & Company, where John Becker and Matthew Copus have been similarly helpful over the years.

Scott Insurance in Lynchburg, VA. I can tell you that they went above and beyond to get me bonded so I didn't lose a big construction project in the middle of the huge power outage we had here in central va.

If you want to shoot me your email, I'll get you hooked up with a sales rep that I really like dealing with.

I would recommend EA Klein. They are out of somewhere in Maryland (near Philladelphia). My agent's name is Mark Amirault. He is a great guy to talk to. I have been with them for 7 years. They are the agent. The actual insurance is thru Fireman's Fund. I was intially referred to them by the PA state surveying society.

E & O Liability Consultants

Insurance Service Corporation of America (E & O Liability Consultants)

"Specializing in Professional Liability Insurance for Architects, Engineers, Surveyors and other design professionals across the United States", it really helps to have an agent that specializes in our profession.

I have been a customer for a few years now, after a couple of other agents, customer service is very good, haven't had to file much in the way of a claim though, BUT that might change from year to year anyway as they carry multiple lines, my insurance carrier is different this year than last even the agent stayed the same, they shop it on your behalf each renewal year.

I purchased some Professional Liability Ins a few months ago. Agent was really nice and pleasant to work with. I told him what I needed and he was like "Oh yes, we can do that, we cover surveyors..."

So after paying all the fees and signing all the papers, i get the "completed package" in the mail.

they managed to slip in some disclaimer that they "DO NOT cover anything related to anything about anything Oil and Gas"

So make sure you know what you are getting before you purchase it. I thought I knew, took a hour or two to read the original documents before I sent them in.

I have used Assurance Risk Managers for the past three years. They were recommended by NSPS. They are located in Colorado. Ron Keiter (888) 454-9562, rkeiter@armi.com
