what are you talking about? that someone else is me from 12 months ago...
Gosh if we could only get the rest of the surveyors on board with that train of thought.
CAD Files Only? Without Raw Field Data?
Given a challenge to your results, you cannot prove how anything was done without the raw field data. You need more than the CAD file, you need the supporting evidence. That most recent CAD file may be all or part based on filed work more than 15 years ago.
Either that or you are doing field work all over again.

CAD Files Only? Without Raw Field Data?
You need to read more of this thread. He created the CAD files.
CAD Files Only? Without Raw Field Data?
Whether or not he created the CAD, ALTA requires certain proofs of the process.

Good points. I'd probably lose my shirt in the private sector. Another good point might be that you don't want the clients getting used to thinking that the discounted cost is what a survey should cost.
"I'd propose $1,000 for updating a year old ALTA which originally cost $20,000 , assuming I drive by and what was bare graded ground does not have major structures on it."
This is exactly why most surveyors are such poor businessmen!!

"Whether or not he created the CAD, ALTA requires certain proofs of the process."
Exactly - I can't understand why people don't understand this. It's printed in the Standards!!
I learned early on that discounts need to be itemized on the invoice so that clients don't "forget" what the real price is when the next job comes along.

So he needs the raw data files that he orginally processed and used to create the ALTA that he drew in order to upate the ALTA?
You must consider what the bank and client believe your worth is.
Are they giving you a call because they think it is cheaper than calling someone else?
Yes they are. They have checked out the options.
Consider that nobody in the whole process is giving anyone involved a discount for their part and also consider that your fee is not the largest fee involved.
Do not short yourself or your profession.
You may find that the people calling you are more willing to spend $20k by going with a new surveyor than spend $13k in your direction.
Test the waters and the source and see if the client has you on their list or if they consider that you are their cheapest way to get the deal done.
