After I built my house, I went to get the occupancy permit. They told me I had to tear down my barn (100+ years old) because no structures are allowed in front of the house. The house is 900 feet from the road, the barn about 300 feet from the road.
So I went with a lawyer to the zoning board, told them that the side of the house with the three garages was the front (it has a door and a house number on it), and if you extend that face down to the road, the barn is behind it. The vote was 4-3, I got to keep the barn.
