An e-mail that I just sent out:

Hello Client,

As you know I went out to the site on Monday (07.20.2015) this week and staked lines 1 through 4 and A through D in accordance with the foundation plan (I flagged these stakes with orange flagging, just FYI to help Mister Contractor).

Then yesterday you sent me the latest Anchor Rod Setting Plan in dwg format. So today I returned to the site to double check those critical orange stakes from Monday so Mister Contractor could set the interior bolts today.

Then today I also set some new stakes (with white flagging, for MC) based on that drawing file provided yesterday to establish the centerline bolt patterns.

Well, today after some review and comparison of the foundation plan to the anchor rod setting plan I noticed some discrepancies.

Then, also today I further reviewed the anchor rod setting plan‰Ûªs dimensions provided and compared them with the actual lines and locations within the AutoCAD drawing file itself. There are very many more significant discrepancies therein.

It is my recommendation that all construction work on the foundation and anchor bolts stop immediately until these discrepancies are sorted out and clarified for all involved to understand and agree with the final dimensions (to be provided by others).

I have attached a few marked up sheets for your review.

Brad

This is one of the reasons I don't miss construction staking at all.

Yup. Been there too much and I would love to toss construction layout out the window.

That is why we had "pour sheets" signed off by all crafts noting the date, drawing number, drawing date and drawing REVISION NUMBER. Saved my butt more than once.

Client, no need to talk on the phone in the morning. I have it all re-calculated.

Question: are the ‰ÛÏdouble bolts‰Û near 4-D centered at 10‰Û from line D also?

I only ask that because visually according to the ‰ÛÏdots‰Û on the drawing they DO NOT quite appear to line up with that row of ‰ÛÏG‰Û columns‰Û?

Which is no real surprise, because NONE of the bolt patterns on the anchor bolt drawing line up with ANY of the dimensions provided. You can look at the pdfs attached to this e-mail to see that they vary from 1-8‰Û to 10‰Û to 8‰Û to 7‰Û.

At any rate, once you are able to answer my last question above, I plan to return to the site Thursday morning to re-re-stake the foundation anchor bolts.

Thanks, Brad

Yeah, the clock is still ticking, but the next game will be getting the checks collected, right?

Uh oh. Stakes were set then the discrepancies found. Doesn't matter who actually made the mistakes. Nor does it matter that you were the one to find them and sound the alarm.

Stakes in the ground is always the point at which everyone else refers to it as a "survey mistake".

Good luck, you'll likely need it.

They were re-set in the latest "correct" location today before they were relied upon for any construction. Thanks for the well wishes.

EDIT: excellent point by the way also. Thanks again, truly.
