My livelihood depends in large part on my ability to get around effectively in all kinds of conditions and over the last year I've been reminded on multiple occasions of the fragility of my otherwise indestructible body. I'm nursing a partially torn rotator cuff and slap tear, pulled my back out, hyper extended my hip. Pretty pathetic, I know. I'm giving serious thought to begin carrying some kind of disability insurance in the event I'm unable to work for an extended period of time. The reality is I'm only one moose collision away from being a pauper. Anyone have any recommendations or experience they can offer up? It's one my new year resolutions to get something in place in the event I find myself in the wrong place at the wrong time. I've learned the hard way luck will only get you so far.
TIA.
Cheers. Willy out.
Ask your insurance company for "key man" rates
The insurance company will want a physical and medical history. That will likely push up your cost. I purchased Disability?ÿInsurance 20 years ago and pay about $35 per month. Last year I looked into increasing the coverage, and after a minor back sprain. The cost was to go up 10 fold. So the key to this is to purchase early when you healthy and young.
