Perhaps this is something to consider when hiring entry level people?
?ÿ
Entry level I'm generally in the $18-$20 range with no experience or post-secondary education; $25 with no experience and an associates or bachelors degree.?ÿ ?ÿ
Wage compression is real!
What a weird headline...Costco didnt raise the minimum wage, they raised their base salary. It would be like saying Google raised the minimum wage to $125k/year or whatever.
But around here you can make $15/hour at a fast food place, so it isn't huge news.
They probably have to make noise about it to help stave off the unions that want into Costco.
Costco also offers an fairly solid benefits package.
If you are in surveying and not making 15 bucks and hour you need to quit right now - today.
When an entry level person is looking at potential employers, one of the starting points for their search is pay.
My view is the pool of potential employees, at the entry level, is similar for survey companies and Costco. In many cases, a person at the entry level stage of their career wouldn't even look at surveying as an option.
Regarding the union issue: if that's the case, it's probably a wise business decision.
I'd submit that is a benefit of having unions, even to non-union employees. It pressures employers to take steps to keep unions at bay.
Revising the thread headline to make it less weird for you doesn't seem like an option.
Why is that?
from an online article... Wage compression "... is especially likely to be true of your best and longest tenured employees or of high performers or managers who have not seen pay increases along with their increased responsibilities or output."
If wages are compressed it's from the top end. Pay at the top should be increased.
Costco long ago made it policy to hire and retain good staff, and to do so they have always paid well and provided benefits. It is not unusual to see employees at my local Costco who have been there since the 1990's. But they countenance no BS with their employees. Single transgressions of policy can result in instant termination. That is what they get?ÿ in exchange.?ÿ
Oklahoma has no Costcos. They have plenty of Sam's Clubs. The employees at Sam's are all short timers and it shows. The merchandise and layout of the two are very similar, but the experience is very different.
Further comment would leak into P&R so I'll stop here.
?ÿ
I'll be headed right out to, wait where are you located at??ÿ?ÿ?ÿ ?????ÿ
Many Costcos?ÿ are already fully unionized, and they appear to be very welcoming to Union organising.?ÿ?ÿ
And if?ÿ you are paying your employees that low, please go solo or try something else.?ÿ
