Not a surveyor but i work with them. Hoping you can settle an argument in my office, are ALTA surveys required to be recorded in New Mexico?

It turns out the wording isn't clear. You're going to have to find an official interpretation.

12.7.2.8.B (8)

An ALTA/?ÿNSPS survey?ÿis a boundary survey. Therefore, a plat of survey must be recorded.

NMAC 12.8.2.8.J

A plat of survey must be recorded only if it is a survey of a parcel for which no previously recorded plat exists or, in the case of?ÿremonumentation,?ÿthe surveyor finds that field measurements are significantly different from record dimensions.

-----

A reasonable able interpretation of B(8) would be that ALTA surveus are subject to the same requirements as other surveys. But rhat's not what the precise wording says.

Late to this, but the point of 12.7.2.8.B (8) is that there is no exemption for ALTA surveys. Not all ALTA surveys will meet the requirements for mandatory recording.

ALTA surveys often have a whole bunch of information that is extraneous to the public interest in stable boundaries, so often a separate boundary only plat is recorded.
