I am playing a bit around with old Trimble 4000SSI, 4400 and 7400MSI GPS receiver. Trying to make some RTK connection between them possible and install other Datum then WGS84. Software is running and Firmware is also good did internal Battery replacement and Firmware reloaded.
I have already looked at:
Series 4000 Application Guide, Series 4000 Receiver Reference Manual, 4000SSi User Guide, Remote Controller Software User Guide
I am looking for any Manuals about 4400 and 7400MSI (just found 7400RSi & 7400DSi brochure).
Also there must be a Programm "DATM4000" to put a local Datum at 4000 Reciever. I am also looking for that Programm. Maybe anybody still has this old Manual?
Manual says:
"A receiver can hold definitions of only one local datum and one local zone at a time. To change them, you must connect the
receiver to a computer and run the DATM4000 program."
"You select a local datum and local zone by running the program DATM4000 on a personal computer that is connected to one of your
receiver's serial ports. This program is described in Local Datum and Zones Option: Software Release Notes."
"24122-00 DATM4000 software; downloads configurations for the Local Datum/Zones feature."
?ÿ
The 4000 Se/Si/SSe/SSi receivers have a Multiple Datums option, option code 22:

I haven't tried turning the option on, but it might be worth investigating.
Hi I have a 7400msi I see you already have the manuals but I have just done a battery replacement and cannot find the firmware anywhere. Where did you find this?
?ÿ
Thanks?ÿ
@electech it uses the same firmware as the 4400. The firmware for the 4400 is available on Trimble??s site.
If you??re still looking for the DATM4000, I think found it:
Zoom in on the photo of the disks; top left envelope presumably contains the DATM4000 disk.?ÿ
@keelan?ÿ
Thank you. Seems like the Trimble Part No. for Version 2.02 of DATM4000 changed to 28497-01.
I will contact him if there is still software left on that old disks. Shipping all items from the auction to germany will cost way to much for just the software, but i will ask just for software. Finding old disk drive might also be hard... ?????ÿ
@mike1202 if it??s no-go on splitting it up, I think I might bid on it. I??m in Canada and will also get hosed on shipping, but not as bad because I can get it sent to my forwarding address, then by pack mule from there to me to cut costs. I wouldn??t mind the 7400 to round out my growing collection, and it??s worth it for the antenna cable alone. I??m set up to read the floppy, so I would make sure you get what you??re looking for, too.?ÿ
An update: I bid on the lot and won it.
The good news: The lot contained a still-sealed envelope containing the DATM4000 software.
The bad news: The 7400 that was also in the lot had the worst lithium battery failure I've ever seen. The board and internal EMI shielding was extensively damaged.?ÿ
The really bad news: The floppies were storied in the same airtight carrying case as the 7400. The caustic atmosphere created by the batteries seems to have ruined the floppies, rendering them unreadable.
I tracked down a number of floppy drives, and tried them all with different operating systems, with no luck. But then I learned about a tool called the Greaseweazle, which is a piece of hardware that directly controls a floppy drive in order to create "flux-level" images of floppy disks. After a number of failed attempts,?ÿtoday I was finally able to successfully image the DATM4000 floppy disk:

Enjoy!
What does DATM4000 do?
see first post...
Maybe i can make my 4000SSi display "local datum coordinate" UTM32 on its display?ÿ ?????ÿ
Not really recessary for postprocessing, but nice to have and play a bit with these old recievers.
I have 2 4000sse's, 1 4000ssi, three L1/L2 microcentered antennas, a crap ton of books, disks and cables.?ÿ I think one of them has a display problem after the internal batteries died and leaked.?ÿ Not sure what shipping would run, but they need a new home.
Every time I look at my pile of 4000-series gear I think, "I should get rid of this stuff, it's just taking up space."?ÿ Right about then another campaign-style job comes along, and next thing you know I'm buying fresh batteries and setting out half a dozen of the old gals.?ÿ
Their value has dropped so much that I often leave them unattended, locked up but not enough to discourage any but the most inept of thieves.?ÿ I worry more about the tripods than the receivers.
Of the dozen or so that I own, I've had 3 go bad, showing errors that I don't know how to fix.?ÿ So eventually they all *will* die, but most are taking their own sweet time about it.?ÿ I don't think I have any that are less than 20 years old.
They are like the guy told me when he replaced my 35 year old water heater. "There was a time when the company made a big mistake and built them too good."
Single constellation and limited channels mean you need more time out there than with the newest gear, but they get the job done.
I was just reading the installation notes for the v2.21 firmware for the 7400MSi I also extracted from the almost-dead floppies, and found this:
*IMPORTANT NOTE : Local coordinates are now configured using Configuration Toolbox version 1.10. The Datm4000 software previously shipped with the 7400MSi is no longer supported. All existing 7400MSi users will be shipped update kits containing 2.21 firmware and Configuration Toolbox version 1.10.
Of course, after a heroic effort to recover the damn thing, it's useless! Oh well, I learned a lot along the way.
The good news is that I also recovered Configuration Toolbox v1.0 from the almost-dead floppies, and it appears to support modifying the datum; I don't know if the oldest version available at UNAVCO (v4.0.1.2) still has this functionality.
