I've seen plenty of plastic caps that rodents have nibbled on, but this is a first.?ÿ I came across this aluminum cap with teeth marks yesterday.?ÿ I have a photo of it from 2017 looking shiny and new.?ÿ It's not easy to get to and not easy to find, no fence or road nearby.?ÿ It's about 1.5 miles from a river where I've seen beaver damage, but it's well upland and there are no trees for nearly a mile.?ÿ Anyone ever seen something like this?

Never seen that before. Wasnƒ??t glitter poop a thing a few years ago. I guess the gophers wanted in on it. Goofy critters risking Alzheimerƒ??s to be hip....

That is bizarre.?ÿ If it were a big animal the bar would be somewhat damaged as well.

I know!!!!?ÿ Davy Crockett did it.?ÿ "Killed him a bar when he was only three."

Cable TV wires are sheathed in aluminum.?ÿ The section at the pole in front of my house has been repaired a couple of times over the years because squirrels chew through the aluminum outer shielding allowing water to get inside the cable.?ÿ It's enough of a problem that they have a more expensive cable that has a layer of something that squirrels don't like coating the aluminum and an outer plastic layer to protect the anti-squirrel layer.?ÿ I've also seen chain link fences where the aluminum ties are nearly chewed through along the top of the fence where squirrels run back and forth.

I've seen it a number of times, always in squirrel habitat.

Squirrels is my bet.?ÿ As stated above they can wreak havoc on communication lines, especially aerial lines.

A lot of the older and larger telephone cables were sheathed with lead.?ÿ The little buggers had a hay day on them.?ÿ They will chew on anything that is standing still, even aluminum.

Here's what one can do to aluminum ties on a chain link fence:

That's a nice-looking tooth sharpening station.?ÿ I'm sure the squirrels are grateful that you installed it for them.

@dougie

That is a clear depiction of the only reason Electrical Engineering students are required to take a class in Statics.
