Today's setup.?ÿ I spent much of the day in a town library 5 miles away, well entertained and out of the heat.?ÿ I called it a long enough session just in time to pack up and start driving as the first raindrops hit.?ÿ Encountered a briefly serious rain partway home.
Nice pic!
Nice Picture Bill, and THANKS for what you are doing for the GPS Bench Mark Program!

I'm afraid my little contribution is but a drop in the bucket of what is needed.?ÿ Our DOT has no funding for this activity, and hasn't submitted a GPSonBM share in my half of the state this year.?ÿ They did get a few in the west end in connection with projects.?ÿ I don't see anybody systematically working on it.
The end of August is coming right up, and August 11th is the last day to observe for the next geoid model if you want precise orbits. That's just 4 weeks away. If the weather cooperates and I take all the time I can between other planned activities, I'll get no more than a half-dozen more sessions by then.
The one pictured will be my 14th session for submission and only the 5th mark to get at least two submissions due to my efforts. I probably shouldn't have spent two trips proving that one wasn't usable (poor GPS site and reset data appears blundered by 1.00 ft) and done something more productive instead.?ÿ I wanted to get some data closer to the home town in the south central part of the state where there are huge gaps in coverage, but that's harder to schedule.
On the positive side, Iowa's geoid was already much more accurate than a lot of places, and our neighboring states have done a lot more. MN and WI have gone all-out for height modernization. IL and MO have decent share coverage, which pins down Iowa's margins.

EVERY "point" counts, and I wish more folks could take the time and effort to do what you are doing. Hell, I WISH I had the time to do it! I have bought two IG3s units from Igage in the last year or so, just for that purpose, but haven't had the time to do anything with them except organize the "boxes" and install 10.5 AH batteries in them so that I can do longer sessions.
Maybe next year...
