This is a warning of something we all should keep in mind.
Your cell phone rings, you don't recognize the number so you ignore the call. ?ÿThree times in about three minutes.
An hour ago that unknown number was my cell phone number. ?ÿThe user had just been in a car wreck and was desperately trying to contact his wife to tell her he was physically OK but the SUV and boat were totaled. ?ÿWe had used my headlights to locate the second vehicle and it's unknown occupants. 911 had been called, especially due to the injuries of the ones in the smashed pickup far off the road on a night with zero moonlight. ?ÿHis wife refused to answer his calls from my phone. ?ÿHis might have still been somewhere in his destroyed SUV, but we had no way to find it.
Both husband and wife are in their mid-70's. ?ÿA little bit of everyone in their little town has a police scanner. ?ÿThe second anything specific goes out someone will call the next of kin to let them know what they thought they heard. ?ÿThat first call scares the family member. ?ÿHe knew that would happen and he knew that her health is a bit fragile at this time. ?ÿHe wanted her to know he was OK no matter what she might hear from well-meaning do-gooders.
I was the first vehicle to come on to the wreck. ?ÿI did not see what happened. ?ÿI saw a boat diving off the narrow, two-lane county paved road into the east ditch and a man in my headlights waving his arms in hope I would not crash into him or any of the debris strewn all over the roadway. ?ÿI recognized him immediately and called him by name, which clearly calmed him somewhat. ?ÿHe asked me to follow him in search of the other vehicle that had to be somewhere but which we could not see as it had no lights working after what I guessed to be a couple of rolls before landing on a barb wire fence at the bottom of the deep ditch.
Scary stuff. Glad they were all OK.
My wife was accustomed to ignoring all calls that came from unknown numbers. She quit that practice after a similar incident a few years ago.
?ÿ
I seldom answer any calls, ever. I quit my enslavement to the phone when I retired.
Voicemail rocks. If they don't leave a message it must not be important.
I get a half dozen robo calls a day. Sorry, but if you are not on my contact list I can't answer. Leave a message, better yet text me,?ÿ and I'll call you back.
Glad all are okay.
I won't answer a number I don't recognize. If it's an emergency I have voicemail and text.
I answer every call even if it says scam, I can just hang up on them, and I would rather hang up on a scam call then miss a phone call.
A couple of weeks ago I had a call caller ID said Scam Likely, it turned out to be a decent job, and not a scam.
What you do with your personal phones is your business but I find?ÿ it irritating to be repeatedly sent to voicemail when calling a public agency's contact numbers when I know for a fact that they're just not that overwhelmed with phone calls.

"This is the voicemail for Peter Ehlert. I do not take direct calls. Please leave a message and your number. I return calls between 7am and 8:30 am, Monday-Saturday"

I have been trying to get a hold of you to deliver your subpoena and summons from the IRS because you are deep tax trouble, I know the message is in a heavy foreign accent, not suspicious, don't know why you aren't calling back?

The IRS does not call first, they just leve your bank account... or maybe that's the Calif. FTB.
Actually it's both, ask me how I know.
"Meester Care-Roly vee haf been tryink to get hold of you because you are under summons by the Eye Ar Ess You cood be are-rested soon"
My Wife doesn't like to answer any unknown?ÿcalls.(Bugs me.)?ÿLast year I lost my phone during duck season. Had to text from a different number to know She would get the message right away and not to think I had been eaten by an alligator. I normally answer calls no matter what and just hang up on or mess with the caller if it is a waste of time. Doesn't bother me much and I've received?ÿvaluable calls from numbers I don't recognize too. My .02 cents.
I've learned that I can't block calls with my antiquated phone, and I need a 'smart' phone for the convenience. Same toll-free number every day for nearly a year now.
