It has been 18 years since I used one of those, BUT if you get that running, it is one hot EDMI, I have shot as far as 27000 feet on a big bank of glass, 12000 feet or so is no sweat on a single! Are you interfaced to a Leica instrument or attempting to use stand alone? We used to use this on a T2000 so all control was through the instrument, might be some settings that needs to be changed depending on how you are using the DI?

it's on a T3000, with no theodolite battery, though (those are getting recelled). 12v battery directly wired to DI4. it just strikes me as odd that i get the (return) signal strength when i 'test', but no result when i use distance 'dist'. many of the tests give me a signal strength in the sixties. i have also tried it with and without the short distance filter.

scratching my head

I do not have any information on this one. I will call around and see if I can find someone who has the documentation or that remembers them well enough to diagnose the issue.
