We all operate in different work and social environments. Many may be similar, yet they will still be different. Part of the discussion on the latest "lowballers" thread got me to thinking about who my clients are as compared to who are the clients of other fine professionals who frequent this great site.

Current and recent list of clients:

1) A county commissioner who I have known and worked alongside for five years.
2) A real estate broker who I've known for over 20 years and performed several
dozen surveys including at least five on his own properties.
3) A fellow from out of state who was guided to me by a lender for whom I have
performed a dozen surveys including two on his own properties.
4) A lady I do not know who was guided to me by a retired surveyor. I only
need two control points to do the job and I've already used one of them.
5) A funeral home operator who I have known since I was a kid and for whom
I have performed several surveys.
6) A young fellow. I've known his wife since her birth, her mother since her
birth, her father for 55 years, his mother since she was born and his
father since about 1970. I've already used the two controlling corners
for his job on past projects.
7) A real estate broker who I've known for about 50 years and was in high
school with. I've done a dozen or more jobs for him, including one on
his own property.
8) A woman who I know slightly, but have known her parents for over 25 years.
Two prior jobs across the street to west and north helped with this.
9) A repeat customer from 15 years ago to work on the same property.
10) A couple who I have known my entire life for whom I have done two prior
projects. All but one of the section corners required had been found on
other survey projects.
11) The neighboring county and its landfill where I have spent much time over
the past 15 years.
12) A business man for whom I have done four prior jobs, including one at this
property.
13) A fellow I've known for over 20 years and have done about 15 jobs for.
14) A lady and her contractor who I do not know. They were referred to me by
a realtor for whom I have done dozens of jobs.
15) A lady I do not know referred to me by the local flood plain administrator.
I had worked previously directly across the street from her home.
16) A fellow I've never met who was referred to me by the farmer operating his
land for whom I have done three prior surveys.
17) A bank for whom I have done maybe 100 surveys over the years.
18) A businessman for whom I have done two prior surveys plus two more when his
father was running the business. I was in school with his mother and two of
her siblings. My father dated his grandmother when they were in school.
19) A large business operator for whom I've done four prior surveys. Also,
performed several surveys for his wife and her real estate firm.
20) A fellow I have never met but was referred to by his lender for whom I have
done dozens of surveys.
21) Two jobs for the same guy in 2) above. Had prior work adjoining one of
those two sites.
22) A lady I do not know but I had surveyed the property eight years ago.
23) The son of a fellow I've known since he was born. I had a prior survey on
the same tract.
24) A water district for which I have done several prior surveys.
25) A local city for which I have performed dozens of surveys. The tract is
adjacent to two prior surveys.
26) A local family that I've known most of my life.
27) A fellow I did not know on a property that was all new to me.
28) A repeat client for the fourth survey on the same property.
29) A fellow I did not know referred to me by the bank in 17) above.
30) A realtor/lender who I've known since birth and an uncle of the wife in
6) above.
