Wow, ken, I can only imagine what it's like to reduce your level notes!! 😉

I like standard level ruled on the left, and a 10= 1" grid on the right.

Of course everyone knows that the two faces make one page, and karoly is right, number the right hand page!

Numbers go on the left face, pictures on the right face..........

Not to hijack, has anyone tried a Capturx for Microsoft Office OneNote digital pen? They say it works with write in the rain note books. See Here I thought it might be interesting to try one out.

haven't owned an Adapx pen but saw/used one at an LSAW meeting.

Seems like the best of all worlds. Paper notes that you don't have to transcribe.

My dream is to use one to write the field notes directly in star*net format, stick the pen in the usb slot on the laptop and hit "go" on star*net.

> I’m thinking about the kind of things that a land surveyor, out in the field, would find really useful?

In 34 years of field work, doing everything from geodetic control to construction staking, I don't think I've referred to the reference material on the end pages of a field book more than once or twice, and the last time I did so was probably over 25 years ago. For my money, that stuff represents wasted paper. I'd rather see more ruled pages, or maybe an index page or two.
