I went to the old TDSWAY.COM websight today to download Foresight and it's gone. Looks to be replaced by a Trimble websight. I knew Trimble bought them but is Foresight and DXM a thing of the past?

I think Trimble rebranded it as Spectra Precision hardware and software. Mostly quick way to side step legacy software and hardware support.

What I suspected, and why I will probably make the jump to Carlson in the future.

For the software gurus out there, how does that affect copyright laws? If say I found a workaround to the hardware lock issue, could I use the software without fear of retribution, given it is no longer supported?

I think hardware locks are addressed in DMCA.

The original base product of TDS and SMI was Carlson Surveyor1 language that went public for lack of revision for a number of years. They came along and wrote in in different menu styles and developed it into two independent products.

Not an expert in patent law, but it would appear possible to tweak it for you own use.

If you have your original hardware lock and it is still functional then you can try Dongle (hardware lock) emulator software. It will let you run your software without a dongle physically installed. Although you will need access to a computer with a parallel printer port that you can plug the dongle into read out the data to do the emulation.

P.S. here is a link to their page about TDS foresight.

@ Randy

Randy,

Thanks for the info..... Thats good news..

I have been a Foresight user since it was introduced. Before that, Easy Survey.

I now use Auto Cadd LT for my finished plats, but all calcs, linework and DTM's are done in Foresight.

In my opinion, it was a very good package..........

Regards

@ Randy

P. L. Parsons has the right idea, make the switch to Carlson. We did and our company is very happy with the results.
