My wife has a problem with how men relate to other men. In my neighborhood it is rather common for one man to address another directly with an epithet that would get them killed if used in the wrong place at the wrong time. You receive such sobriquets and you pass them out to others. No big deal. On the other hand, women will become lifelong enemies if someone does such a thing to them.

Another common happening is to say something about someone else, in their presence, as a form of kidding. One typical thing is to add the village idiot/drunk/druggie to the list of the other person's children.
