I used to wonder if every old geezer used to survey back in school. Then I realized it's really only the ones who did just tend to be the ones who stop.
True story, I was staking r/w in front of this house when out walks a guy that looked like he had been on a three day bender. I say hello we are staking... "you dont have to tell me I'm a surveyor" to my reply, great then you understand the new highway is taking this house, his reply "you don't have to tell me I'm a surveyor". At this point I thought I have to find out more about this character. I ask how long have been surveying? "I been surveying for a long time. I used to be a party chief but now I'm a instrument man(as his sticks his chest out)". It was all I could do not to die laughing. I said man you better slow down or you'll be running the rod before long. This happened fifteen years ago and it still brings a smile to my face every time I think about it.
