I had the opportunity on Saturday to attend a free presentation regarding the preservation of the Mason & Dixon Line by Todd Babcock of the Mason & Dixon Line Preservation Partnership at the York County Heritage Trust Museum in York, PA. I've always enjoyed learning about the historical aspects of surveying. Also, considering that I live just a few miles north of The Line and have done work on both sides as well as on it, I especially enjoy learning more about it and the men who ran it. If anyone ever has the chance to hear Mr. Babcock tell about it and the Partnership's efforts to preserve the original markers, I encourage you to do so.

Keith, Todd is a very knowledgeable speaker. He spoke at the Surveyors Historical convention in Philadelphia two years ago. Hope all is well up there.
There were a few things that he talked about that I was pretty sure I had heard about from you 🙂 It was very informative. I really enjoyed it. Mom went along with me. She liked it, but she said she was nodding off through some of "that technical stuff"...
Oh, and they're going to remonument the Crown Stone that's near Stewertstown this fall. I'll let you know if I find out when it's happening. I'd like to go and I thought you might like to go too.
not only are they re-setting stone 40, there will be an unveiling and semi- dedication of the soon to be restored theodolite and equal altitude instrument that mason and dixon used on the project. parts of it were found some years ago under the floor boards of the tower at independence hall
