we have 2 Verizon Jetpack mifi units and would like to start using them to transfer data back and forth from field to office, hopefully using Dropbox.
Anyone out there that can help with setup? We're using Trimble TSC2 collectors that have bluetooth, and the Verizon mifi units are active (we used for a short bit with AZGPS). Seems like we can save some time doing this.
Thanks very much, I'll be back on line Monday to see if there are replies.

Joe,

I believe that the MiFi units are expecting a WiFi connection and not a Bluetooth connection.

Do the Data Collectors support WiFi?

We do this all of the time. It is as simple as connecting to the MiFi with your Ranger. Simply access the Wireless Manager and select WiFi Settings to establish a connection. After the connection is made, select Share in File Menu and log into Dropbox. I believe that any of the files that are uploaded or downloaded must reside in one the My Documents sub-folders, as Dropbox will not access the Survey Pro Jobs folder.

While we use the Dropbox feature, IMO, it is much easier to transfer to a thumb drive and then transfer with a laptop.

I hope this helps a little bit.

Regards,

I've never utilized the dropbox and have no idea what it is. We just created a gmail account for each ranger and use the email program in the ranger itself to send and receive files. Just hold the cursor on the file and it gives an option to email it right there. I find it easiest that way.

As far as data access from the cloud and my NAS I'm looking at Egnyte.

Egnyte

For $40 per month I can get 1 terra byte in the cloud backup from my own NAS. I should be able to access the files (on my NAS) from any internet device including my smartphone. So if this works as it should any file on my NAS should be available anywhere and I should be able to work on any file from anywhere where I have internet.

This would be way better than Dropbox in my view. I already pay $20/mo for 50 GB backup of my NAS in the cloud. So I'd get 20 times more and it should work better and be more secure.

Dropbox is one of the cloud storage services. They offer 2 Gbytes for free and more storage for money. It will synchronize a set of folders under c:dropbox on all of your computers that have it installed when they are connected to the internet.

The "public" folder is accessible to all and only those you give the link to, so it is handy for distributing files to clients, pictures to grandma, and linking documents for a forum post.

If you use a referral link to sign up, both you and the person giving the link get a little extra free storage.

Network Attached Storage. I have a small ReadyNAS Pro 2 (2 terrabyte - mirrored disks as 1 terra byte).
