Hi guys

I'd like to use my MT1000 prism with the "lid" removed so I can attach a pole to the top of it.

Will it still be waterproof with the "lid" removed?

Cheers, Andrew

I use to screw a point on to it and put it on the bottom of a 1' pole for tight layout.

This is my set up for staking out. I had read that the MT1000 wasn't very accurate so I tested its accuracy over nails with known co-ordinates. I find this set up is within 1mm centering accuracy.

I use the prism/Trimble Access in semi-active mode and I "point" the prisms to the instrument. I have tipex dots on the top to tell me where the prisms are. If the prisms are not directly pointing at the instrument I get within 6mm of accuracy.

I have found this set up is just as accurate is using a nodal/peanut style prism, plus I have the added advantage of awesome tracking.

@fobos8

you will get better horizontal accuracy using fully active tracking. (it centres on the leds, not the individual prisms)

the vertical accuracy is not as good though, that is when to use semi-active or passive tracking.
