USGS did a lot of third order control mainly for quadrangle production. They created books of control (H and V separate, by the old 15' quads). The horizontal datum is NAD27, and the vertical datum is NGVD29. Very little of their data was included in the NGS readjustments that resulted in NAD83 and NAVD88. However, I believe their data has some usefulness, especially for projects that were tied to them (most of the USACE projects in my area used USGS control simply because USCGS/NGS control was too far away).?ÿ
Apparently Rolla is trying to get them all scanned...I have scanned copies (pdf) of the USGS horizontal and vertical control books (by 15' quadrangles) for the following states:
Kentucky
Maryland
New York
Ohio
Pennsylvania
West Virginia
I will try to put them online if anyone is interested...

The Rolla USGS Center only services what the USGS defines as the Eastern States, or "ND, SD, NE, KS, OK and?ÿall points east", so inquiries on the Western States would have to be directed to the Denver Office but I have never been in contact with anyone there.?ÿ The Rolla POC did indicate that?ÿonly about half of the control files at that office have been scanned.?ÿ I have subsequently reached out to see if there is a list of which States' scans are completed.?ÿ Obviously all are free to do as they wish, but please don't overwhelm the gentleman with requests, he had mentioned that the staff shrunk from 5 people to 1 person a while back so I imagine all requests are FIFO.?ÿ When we communicated, it seemed safe to assume (but was NOT stated) that there were no plans by USGS to post the scans online, so my intent was to share with anyone whom I thought would also be willing to share.?ÿ John tends to have some interesting stuff on his site (although sometimes buried) and I know he is active online so he was my first go-to.?ÿ I have also shared with Zhanna at thesurveystation.com who will post?ÿonline?ÿwhen time allows.
If anyone else is interested in hosting/posting these datasheets, feel free to message me a URL for your FTP/dropbox/wetransfer/drive/whatever, and I will upload for maximum distribution.?ÿ Altogether as one zip file, these weigh in at 1.15GB so not a huge transfer.
Also, want to point out again that the scans are organized by 15 minute quads, which may not be immediately apparent.

I was all ready to upload to my web server, but that didn't work...found out they went out of business, sold all of the accounts to another company, who totally screwed up my site. So now I gotta work on getting that fixed...
I got more info from USGS Rolla yesterday.?ÿ In addition to what I or John already have available for sharing (see OP), datasheets for the below States are already scanned and available en masse per request by providing a USB flash drive.
Connecticut
Delaware
Indiana
Maine
Massachusetts
Missouri
Nebraska
New Hampshire
New Jersey
Rhode Island
South Dakota
Vermont
Virginia
And remember, datasheets that are not already scanned are still available per request, but since there's only one person doing the scanning they limit requests to a countywide area.
