Got this email this afternoon.
Richard,
Congratulations! You have passed the Alaska Land Surveying examination (AKLS) taken on April 12, 2013.
Your Score: 78
Minimum Passing Score: 70
Once you have completed 30 hours of Surveying coursework, you can again be reviewed by the Board.
One step closer to being a multi-stater.
My license will be pending since I don't quite meet the educational requirement, but they allowed me to take the test. Now to figure out where to get 30 hours of ABET Certified coursework, Southeast Alaska has no oppurtunities for such.
Well done! Congrats!
Good for you Richard.
There are several on line survey programs that offer course work. Just do a web search. Sorry I don't have any links to offer.
Thank you John, I did a quick search when I got the original confirmation and couldn't find any online that stated ABET Certified (even through the ABET site). The board contact person sent me the name of one school in Elko, NV. I will have to look into it, wanted to get the test and associated studying out of the way first.
Howdy,
For what it's worth, Texas A&M University - Corpus Christi program is ABET accredited. See: http://gisc.tamucc.edu/
There is work underway to make undergraduate courses available on-line. Graduate program courses are already on line.
In addition to the BS and MS programs there is a Post-Baccalaureate Certificate program described below:
The Post-Baccalaureate Certificates in Geomatics and Geographic Information Science (GISc) are designed for students who hold a bachelor’s degree or master’s degree in fields other than Geomatics or Geographic Information Science and desire to continue their education to prepare for the Texas Board of Professional Land Surveying examination to become a Registered Professional Land Surveyor of Texas or continue their education in Geographic Information Science.
Candidates for the certificate are required to complete 32 credit hours of surveying related courses; 20 of these credit hours must be taken at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. Students are also required to meet all other academic standards. The Coordinator of the Geographic Information Science program or a designee may waive certain courses if a student has previously completed appropriate surveying courses. Students must apply for the certificate and complete a Certificate Plan approved by the Coordinator of the Geographic Information Science program or a designee.
Good luck with your efforts.
DMM
East Tennessee State University has online classes that fit the qualifications you have described.
Thanks to all of you, I will start looking into it.
Contact Oregon Institute of Technology in Klamath Falls. I believe that they have begun, or will soon begin offering survey courses online. They are ABET accredited.
