TTT etiquette

Why TTT at all? Why not just change your thread display order from "date of thread" to "date of last reply"? Then threads stay together, and we don't end up with fragmented discussions and threads that reference posts in unknown other threads.

Clue about measuring

Adam,

To me, the more suspicious pins are the ones that came out exactly 1000 feet.

In the real world I would search those areas and probably find the orignal monuments within a few feet of newer irons that some expert measurer set.

And the 1960 monuments would fit the original monuments on the exterior better than the four feet reported but probably still not much better than 1:200 (as I expect the exterior orignals would also be).

Some survey opinions amount to malpractice. The license does not give one free reign to make up their own rules as they go along. There is a certain responsibility to know something about the subject matter of the opinion. And there are legitimate differences of opinion as well. Many times the courts disagree right up the line to the high court.

But I'm fairly passionate about reducing the number of new lines run next to original ones by todays surveyors. This is just wrongheaded and the courts are widely in agreement on that in any number of ways.

So, when we get a hypothetical that gives a legitimate choice for retracement, it does concern me when so many surveyors will find a way to reject the line and create a new one.

I agree. The thread automatically comes to the top. Kudos to Wendell for that.

Thanks for pointing that out!

That is my favorite way for boards to list posts. I never paid attention to it sitting right up there just left of the categories pull-down.
