I have been using Trimble robotic units on and off for about 4 years and I recently picked up a Trimble VX with Survey Controller 12.22 on a TSC2 and I am experiencing some interesting horizontal distance errors. Today was the first day I used the unit and I was coming off two known points and closing in on two other known points and I was seeing consistent 0.58' (usft) error. The unit was recently serviced and I combed through the usual suspects (prism offset, temp, pressure, ppm, projection, etc...) and I am not able to figure out a conclusion. Anyone out there experienced this or know what I could cross reference, check or fix? Any help here is appreciated.
Thanks,
BillyD
Are you using Trimble glass?
“I was coming off two known points and closing in on two other known points and I was seeing consistent 0.58' (usft) error”
You are going to have to elaborate somewhat on that for anybody to give you any meaningful input.
Is the .58 a traverse closure (multiple distances)?
Is the .58 a SINGLE distance variance?
Is the .58 consistent between TWO distances of varying lengths?
How “known” are the points in question?
Wow...0.58feet (0.177 meters) is a LOT (unless you are traversing a couple of miles through the timber with short courses)! Something is wrong somewhere.

When you sent the VX in for repair, did they update the firmware on it, and make it no longer compatible with Trimble Survey Controller 12.22? 12.22 is quite old, it was released about 4 years ago. Maybe, maybe not. It's possible some setting was just adjusted incorrectly when you had it serviced. If you are doing everything the same as you used to, and now have this problem, call whomever serviced your gun, or your dealer.
Could be any number of things, but you may want to check if they messed up the EDM constant.
