Hey everybody, I am looking for some advice. I am considering purchasing a Trimble VX Imaging station and I would like any information from anyone who has used this instrument. Feedback on time to scan, file size, learning curve and software would be appreciated. Most scanning would be piping at the refinery. -- Thanx - Matt
I love mine! The photos it takes that you can put in the background of the scan to check to see what it is that you actually scanned is very cool.
Pros, Lightweight, 1" robot, reflectorless out to 900'
Cons, 15 points/second, Figure on a 1:1 time for scanning vs. office. Trimble RealWorx is not super user friendly, I never could get the dxf to import into cad right to dove-tail into other topo.
For us, my dad wanted a scanner and I wanted a robot and it worked great. I've made 40k point scans. Small comparatively speaking to scanners like Mike Falk runs, but it was awesome for the dam breach survey we did.
If you're going to be doing tons of scanning, you may want a bigger scanner though. Ask Mike Falk as I think him or Mitchell Wimbush are the head dudes around here about scanning.
Kris -- Thanx for the feedback. How often do you use the scanning function per month? -- Matt
