I'm new to site and apologize if this is an old question. I recently had a catastrophic "accident" with my old geodimeter 640 robotic instrument and after insurance issues were settled I ended up with a previously owned Trimble 5601 robotic, with a nomad 800 collector running survey pro. I received no manuals on anything. My old on-board collectors will work with this newer system, but I'd like to see what the new collector and software has to offer, but so far I have not been able to get the nomad collector to "talk" to my instrument. I'm assuming that I should connect the com port cable that was supplied to the collector and then to the external radio and I think I have the manage instrument settings correct.
Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Welcome Line&grade,

I did not work with this combination before, we used the Trimble Acces software with our 5600 series.
TDS is now Spectra Precision, don't know if you already had a look at their site for support, I'll guess you'll find some manuals there.

Spectra Precision download section

It's been a while, but most Trimble 5600s use something called "Direct Connect", where you are first have to plug the DC into the gun directly, once you get that talking, you go to radio settings in the DC and hit "Go Remote" (or something similar), the DC then sends the radio settings to the 5600. From there, you should always be able to turn it on from the rod. You might find a better set of instructions if you google "Direct Connect".

Aloha, L&G: What version of SurveyPro is installed on your Nomad?

In SurveyPro go to Job>Setting> Instrument>
Once you are there click on the "Instrument Settings"
If there is already a instrument profile with "Trimble Direct Connect" choose that. Otherwise, edit one of the existing or "create new Instrument setting."

The instrument setup tab will open
Give it a name i.e. MY5601
Brand: Trimble Direct Connect
Model: 5600 Auto Detect (this is the only option should be available to you with Trimble Direct Connect selected.)
Serial port: COM 1

After closing the window. If you plug in the cable directly from the DC to the Gun it should automatically detect the serial connection. It will bring up the level bubble screen on your Nomad's SurveyPro.

I am using SP 5.xx and I am assuming this screens should be the same regardless of the version.

Once you have this working the radio connection should be easy.

Let us know how it goes.
