I've been using SurvNet for my least squares through Carlson, but I've been reducing my static GPS with Topcon Tools. I'm thinking of grabbing the license to adjust total station data through Topcon Tools as the interface is much easier with the GPS data.

Anybody use TT with any thoughts?

I've recently had a little experience using TT, but not with total station data. I was processing GPS data with TT, then exporting the GPS vectors from TT to SurvNet so that I could do a GPS Vector/Total station adjustment in SurvNet. I exported the GPS vectors from TT in the Ashtech 'O' format. This seemed to be the easiest vector format to get into SurvNet.

I use Topcon Tools for my processing my static but am not crazy about its adjustment routine. I export the vectors into StarNet Pro and adjust with my Total Station data. StarNet is much more flexible. I've even input compass reading (with several degrees for estimated errors) to start when I did not have intervisible static GPS points. I would check out StarNet.

Ok then, dumb question: In SurvNet, is there a way to renumber the points or merge the points like in TT? I've started the task of combining a decade and a half of fieldbooks into LS solutions. So many TS files have a traverse point starting at 1.

I have not played with the point renumbering, merging ability in TT. When I have time I will take a look at that. Since you mentioned traverse data I assume you are wanting to renumber/merge total station point numbers. The Carlson raw data editor does have some tools for renumbering points in raw data files. Basically you can add a specified number to a range of points within a specified area of the raw data file. The raw data editor built into SurvNet is a scaled down version of the raw data editor found in the other Carlson programs. The editor available in Carlson Survey has more point editting tools than the raw editor in SurvNet. So it's often advantageous to use the editor in the regular Carlson program.

SurvNet does have a feature that allows you to merge different point numbers that represent shots to the same position. This merging is dependent on entering a specific code in the descriptor. This feature is typically used when collecting the data.

If you have specific ideas for improvements to SurvNet in regards to merging/renumbering point you can email me the suggestions and I can add them to the list of desired improvements to be made to SurvNet. There is supposed to be some work done to SurvNet for the next release, so it's possible that new suggestions could make the next release.
