I purchased a Sokkia IX with the new sonic drives a couple of years ago. They have replaced the instrument several times, replaced the motors twice and the instrument is currently in the shop because the motors have failed again.
Has anyone else had this kind of experience?

They changed out the firmware on ours, I thought it was to keep the motors from burning out...

Ours is 2.5 years old. Currently at Sokkia for the second motor replacement (hopefully that's what caused our recent vertical errors and random freezing). They gave us a Topcon gt-503 as a loaner and it has been amazing so far. Very fast and keeps lock very well. Night and day from the Ix-503 I've been struggling with for a year and a half. The biggest problem was field genius barely ran it and that's all we had. The seller traded us a field genius license for magnet and that improved it a ton, especially after I had time to learn the software. It's actually pretty good. I hope topcon let's us keep the gt-503 since the ix-503 has been a major lemon.?ÿ

I installed new firmware they sent me just recently but it was in hopes to fix the randomly taking a break (turns to the prism and locks on but no tracking/results). The firmware didn't help but a month or 2 after those issues started it started to have some major vertical errors one day then we noticed the motors had gotten extremely noisy.?ÿ
