I used my Hiper Lite base a few days ago and ran the battery dead.?ÿ After charging it completely and attempting to use it, the 2 left lights (stat & rec) both rapidly flash red. I reset the NVRAM like I occasionally have to do. No change.
I can not connect to the receiver through TRU like I can normally can. It recognizes the bluetooth, but will not connect.
Is there a backup battery, other than the normal internal batteries?
Any help would be appreciated.
Maybe you knocked them down... Too far.
Modern batty. Chargers look first, then charge. They look for proper polarity, and voltage. If it's a 12 volt batt and voltage is down at 7 volts, then it is not sure if its supposed to bring it up to 8.4 volts, or, 13.9.
My car charger would not charge the other day, voltage in batt was too low. We hooked up jumper cables, with another batt. This brought voltage up, so charger recognised it, and it did fine.
It's not the same world grandpa lived in. Ford 8n, and sickle bar mowers are a thing of yesterday.

Good thought, but it??s charging up completely.?ÿ
I love my 8n. If it fails to start, I know exactly what to do.?ÿ

Did you try pressing the FN Key for less than 1 second??ÿ
Plugging the receiver power from the external charger should override the battery. Are you connecting to TRU with bluetooth or serial??ÿ?ÿ
I tried the FN button -- nothing
My TSC3 and PC will recognize the bluetooth from the receiver, but it will not connect. The message is "The receiver cannot be detected."
I've tried USB and serial from my PC and TSC3.
One last thing to try before giving up. TRU often does NOT with old Hiper Lites. Try using an old version of PC-CDU and there is another software called something like Floader. This was used to load firmware. If that doesn't work then it maybe a fried board, which used to happen when the power cord was accidentally inserted into the USB slot. Which is a poor design.
It's very possible that your battery is cooked.?ÿ If so, it is possible to replace them. But I recommend that you have a qualified service technician do the job. I have previously written on these pages how I had perfectly functioning Hiper Lite ash canned by an enthusiastic guy who "knew electronics".?ÿ ?ÿ
It has connected ?ÿin the past using TRU on this data collector.?ÿ
I will check into Floader ?ÿ
Are firmware files available?
I believe the batteries are good. ?ÿIt will stay on (flashing red lights) all day without being plugged in.?ÿ
Does clearing the NVRAM reset the receiver back to factory default settings?
The adage that the difference between a GPS salesman and a used car salesman is that the used car salesman usually knows when he's lying to you..., that notwithstanding, my understanding of what clearing the NVRAM does is principally the following three things:
1. It makes the receiver reset itself to default settngs.?ÿ This includes setting the logging interval for static to 1 second.
2. It flushes the reference position (lat/long) the receiver is holding from its previous operation.
3. It deletes the broadcast ephemeris (the continuously repeating file the satellites broadcast that give the orbital information for the constellation - this file loops so that any receiver that has run for 12-15 minutes has received the complete file) thus making it replace the file in its memory.
If the batteries ran completely dead, it could have resulted in the firmware being corrupted, as your description of symptoms suggests.?ÿ Reloading firmware is the only solution.?ÿ We generally do not like to do that on a Bluetooth connection.?ÿ Better to use a serial cable, or pehaps the USB.?ÿ To reload the firmware, you'd need to have the correct files.
Hello. I have the same problem, did you solve that?
:/ 🙁
