Hi all,

Not sure if this is the right place for this, but I am after a manual for a Topcon GTS-300 total station, would there be an online version available in PDF format? I tried searching google but no luck.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Almost any Topcon Manual should tell you all you need to know. I think they have had the same specs for data transfer to data collectors for close to 30 years. What data collector are you using?

BTW, Google took me here:

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1_qOj-y55f9DMEFyezCTpkw--Pijq1Afmf-CG67MYogo/edit

or here:

Buy and download here:

OR HERE:

Then there is always the Topcon Site:

Here's a link to my copy of the Topcon GTS-300 Manual.

Thanks for the manual, it's a big help.

I don't have a data collector at the moment, I just bought this for personal use, I am fairly new to them. What is the most cost effective way to go regarding data collectors for these?

Also I seem to be having issues with the EDM. I don't have a prism as of yet so this may be causing the issues I am encountering. Is there a way to test without one? It does turn on, I can hear a click and see a red light in the scope. It comes up with - C in the display which according to the manual means poor light.

I am not getting any error messages which hopefully is a good sign and it is just operator error. I have only used regular electronic theodolites in the past, so these total stations are new to me.

Any help would be good.

Thanks

Reflective tape should get you a distance.

Start with the basic data collector, an HP 48 with TDS or SMI.

Bicycle reflectors work too.

It's not too hard to re-cell the handle battery if that becomes necessary.

There is a great variation in how well bicycle/traffic safety reflectors work. I find that the approx 1 inch ones distributed in the US are useless because their scatter pattern is too broad and has holes in it. Some brands of the 3" ones are good. The Hillman brand red 3" is better. The Hillman reflective tape strips are not as good as the circular reflectors, but better than most other tapes.

For initial testing, use a range of several yards/meters. If you get too far from something that isn't returning a strong signal it won't work, but you can also be too close, say under 3 or 4 yards.

Car tail lights are quite variable, but you might be able to get a response on one as a quick test rather than waiting to buy something.

Tried again today, had some round trailer tail lights that I tried, they are about 2.5" in diameter. I had 3 of them Red, Orange and Clear. I was about 3 metres away. Still no luck with it. If I look through the scope I can just see a red light continually flashing.

It's not a battery issue as I am using a 12V - 8.4V power pack that I made up. The battery status on the total station always shows full.

@jim-frame

Is there any chance you still have this manual available? If you do it would be great if you could share it again. TIA
