Good Morning All

My first attempt at surveyorconnect....

We purchased an FC 5000 through our survey supplier. It arrived there yesterday. The tech who ordered it discovered the controller does not have a 9 pin serial port to allow connection to our Topcon 800A non bluetooth total station.
It will connect with our bluetoothed Hiper Pro GPS system. It does have a usb host port. See pic from manual

The following from the manual: "Legacy Support
In addition to the Sensor and Location APIs, legacy applications that require access to a serial port can access NMEA data through a serial COM port interface. The name of the COM port can be found by using Device Manager and looking under Ports (COM & LPT) for ‰ÛÏuBlox Virtual COM port (COMx) where ‰ÛÏx‰Û is the port number allocated on your device."
My question is... can a usb-9 pin serial adaptor serve as a patch to allow connection to our 800A?

Thanks for any help/counsel

Yes, that should work. But why use a cable?

I would recommend using a Parani SD1000 9 pin to Bluetooth adapter at the instrument.

Thanks for the advice. I passed it on to the tech along with brochure detailing the device and brochure depicting the male to male gender changer necessary to our Topcon 800A total station cable.
Hopefully the tech will confirm compatibility tomorrow. Cheers Parsec
