I was wondering if anyone here has upgraded their Robotic DS with a RC5. My big complaint, in using the DS with the controller, is that the touted 1000' is not anywhere close. There is nothing that kills productivity more than getting out the bipod and carrying the controller back to the gun to get that long shot. The RC5 is supposed to give better range, up to 1500 feet. Looking at the antenna differences on the DS and PS make me wonder if the DS would even be able to accomplish the same range.
That's odd we have had a Sokkia SRX, SRX-X, and a SX. With a RC-3,4 and 5. The SRX and SRX-X had the smaller antennas and both got at least 1500' and really could reach out closer to 2000'

I am guessing that the the Tesla controller is likely losing the BT signal before the gun. Sometimes in the woods I lose signal at around less than 400'. Before buying the pricey RC-5 I wanted to make sure the expected results are much better.
So you are connecting directly from gun to collector?

Yes. The Tesla collector has long range BT that is supposed to reach up to 1000'.
I have 0 experience with the tesla but with the RC system we have been very happy with the range

Is this an optional accessory? According to the specifications, it lists it as having Bluetooth 2.0+ EDR. Which, listed here, is about 33 feet.

The range is on the DS, not the Tesla. This is from the manual.
Useable Range to 300m
No obstacles, few vehicles or sources of radio emissions/interference in the near vicinity of the instrument, no rain

Looked into more information and the effective BT range of the gun is based on having the RC. The Tesla, for the DS, can communicate to the gun up to 500'.
I have a customer who told me he got a 1,450 foot shot with a DC-203 and a Tesla. I don't know what he experiences routinely but he has not complained about range.
