We have our R10's set to need a tilt calibration every 180 days. In the past it would go 180 days and then give you a pop up that it needed calibration. Three weeks ago we got the popup, did a calibration and thought all was well. It gave us the popup three more times over the course of a couple days. After that it has worked fine every day up until yesterday and we got the message again. We calibrated and then we got the message again today. Any idea what is going on? I am 100% sure the age limit is set to 180 days but it just seems to be randomly needing calibration at random intervals. It is a pain because the guy running it a lot of the time doesn't know how to calibrate it nor does he have a way to level it good ?ÿand steady enough in the field.

The tilt sensor is touchy. I'm not surprised that is going out. We basically don't use it anymore because you need to recalibrate it too often. Keeping it level shouldn't be a problem.

We don't use a bipod. Our work doesn't have to be that precise. Without bracing it is impossible to hold the rover rod still enough for the calibration.

I like the tilt feature because I can specify a tolerance and make sure my guys are plumb enough. We often survey 3-400 points a day so they have a tendency to take shots in a hurry and not be plumb. On stakeout it is all too easy to cheat by tilting the rod to get on point vs moving where you need to be. Our tolerance is large around 4" so you can be sloppy but as with anything they can go too far.

I've experienced this as well. It's not just you. Every hump or bump while in transport or hiking around seems to throw it off. I ultimately ended up turning it off it became so annoying.
