One can't follow "the Manual's procedure quite well" when one apparently skips the chapters Principles of Resurveys, and Resurveys and Evidence leading up to the "I can't find it so I'll calc a new one" procedure used.

I'm not going to point any fingers because I've probably been guilty myself, but you'd be surprised at the number of surveyors that take the illustrations in the Manual as the meat of the matter and have never ever read the text.....:pinch:

Like you said, I'm probably guilty of this at times. Then again, proportioning something that may cause a variance of about a foot typically isn't seen as a problem. Proportioning something that results in a difference of over 100'...

Reading text is definitely the key.

Right. Proportioning raises havoc when the relationships of the PLSS points you are working from is wildly different from the relationships shown on the plat. And it "works well" when the PLSS points "fit the record" well. Either way, you still gotta get through Chapters 5 and 6 (2009 manual) and through the history of deeds, surveys, and occupation before you get to Chapter 7.
