I happened upon this rather obscure display while working in Wellfleet. An odd little town slightly north of me, a pretty place of which about 90% is National Seashore.

Not one Utility pole, but two of them! My youngest son used to refer to Utility poles as "Electricity Trees" so I have dubbed these as "Shoe Trees".

My explanation is that someone got tired of people leaving their shoes at the head of a path to the beach and forgetting about them, but maybe there is a more logical explanation?

Oh yeah, Concrete Bound Found, leaning

Shoe trees exist. Never heard of shoe poles before.

Several years ago I was asked by a DOT area engineer about a similar circumstance a few miles from my home along a State highway. There was a wooden fence post with 15 or more white caps nailed to it along a right-of-way fence. It took a bit of research but I finally learned the story. Both a woman and her daughter worked at a fast food restaurant about 10 miles from that location. They died together in a terrible car crash with the car finally stopping not far from this specific fence post. Their co-workers came to the site a few days later and each nailed their official work cap to the post to symbolize their affection for their deceased co-workers.

Isn't that a recent hit on the country charts?
