I purchased the eBook version for $25:
http://bookstore.authorhouse.com/Products/SKU-000431722/The-Curt-Brown-Chronicles.aspx
I highly recommend the book, it contains a lot of interesting and useful material.
Right now I just finished the section which contains a series of letters and comments from the ACSM Journal in the early 1980s regarding subdividing sections. John G. McEntyre, PhD, PE, PLS of Purdue University kicked off the discussion and I think Doyle G. Abrahamson, P.L.S., M.S. of Merrick & Company, Engineers and Architects had the best comments of the entire thing.
The Curt Brown Chronicles
Dave K, thank you for your input on Brown.
When starting off here in Southern Cal., in 1970's, my old party chief used to tell me when retracing Curt Brown's surveys; "with Brownie, it's do as I say, not as I do."
Took me a few years to understand what he meant. Gradually, I began to see and hear that a lot of his set and found points were not where his map indicated them to be.
I later met one of the draftsmen who worked in Brown's office for years. Brown was a personable fellow, according to him. The lapses were the result of his being on the lecture circuit at least several months per year. No way to supervise your personnel, both with the office boundary analysis and field work.
Actually, that is a violation in all 50 states; "I hereby...certify this survey has been performed by me or under my direct supervision...."
I am not demeaning Curt Brown here, no doubt he was one of the early few who in a clear and readable manner, related the law to the practice of surveying for our and the publics' benefit.
I have a copy of that, as well, Dave. It's very easy, yet stimulating writing, in my opinion.
Very informative and insightful.

I would like to purchase a copy of this E-book for my daughter as a birthday present but I am totally clueless about E-books. She has a tablet and a computer so I assume she will be able to read it ok. My question is what do you get as a deliverable? A DVD, a link for on-line download, ????? Is it the type of thing you can purchase several months ahead of time or is there a time limit?
Like I said I don't know anything about E-books.
I just put in my CC then got a link to download it to my device.
You might want to call them about your options.
I will say the page numbering is different depending upon whether you hold your device in landscape or portrait orientation. If you want to be able to refer to page numbers the physical book would be nice to have.
Thanks Dave
I'll give them a call.
