Technical information need from old Askania WERKE theodolite

Hello, I just joined this forum. I need indentify help for my theodolity type. It's very old one and using it checking compasses. See the photo. Don't put attention to the red compass on the top of the theodolite. I want know the type and any technical information about this turning theodolite part. How accurate it's and so on. I highly appereciate all information. Only thing which I know is the manufactuer. It's made by Askania Werke AG Berlin. Made in Germany

It doesn't look like any surveyor's theodolite that I've ever seen. I can't identify it. It's clearly a precision instrument of some kind.

There is an eyepiece which is probably used for reading a horizontal angle scale. The graduation marks on that scale will indicate its accuracy with respect to angles.

It's good that you have found a use for this instrument. Best wishes in learning more.

  1. @rplumb314 You are absolutely right that it's precision instrument and has eyepieces where can read the angle's. We using this to check compasses as you can see. We would like to hear if it has available any technical specs. So pitty, that device not have any model markings. Of course device might try re-calibrate in some lab and then we would know how it performing.

It looks suspiciously close to catalog pics of the bases of the telescopes by that maker.?ÿ?ÿ
