I have a TDS Ranger 500X. It is a great data collector. It works great, but there have been two instances in the past three weeks or so, that the touch screen has quit working, temporarily. The temperatures have been in the low to mid 30's. That seems to be the only time it acts up.
I can generally work around that, except that I cannot figure out how to swap screens or tabs when the screen stops working. For instance, I was trying to create a point that I had created on the laptop, and written the coordinates in the field book. I went into edit points, and cound enter the description, but could not figure out how to "tab" over to the second screen to modify the coordinates.
Thanks in advance.
Jimmy
I agree with you. That's a pain in the butt. I've had the same problem and I've been unable to resolve it. I could not get the points off a TDS/Ranger combo once because I could not tab or arrow to where I needed to go without the touch screen.
BTW, have you tried to clean out the ridge around the edge of the screen? Crud building up in that little gap will put pressure on the screen and cause it to stop responding. I've noticed it's worse when it's damp and the moisture mixes with the crud. Try using something like a toothbrush to gently sweep the little gap out. It's always worked for me.
Another thing is that you can accidentally toggle off the touchscreen. I think it's Control - Power to turn the touch screen on/off.
Most likely need new screen. Mine did the same thing except in high temps.
